Needing & Wanting: Desigual

I love the design and "living colorfully' aesthetic behind Desigual that not only is it a pleasure to see the latest showcase at NYFW but the designs in person at the store. I mean you can get a couple of statement pieces and feel so carefree wearing them.

Still I have my Cirque Du Soleil Tank to wear from the Desigual Outlet that I bought back in early February to wear this summer!

The latest pieces that I am in love with are:

This Mysterious Night Dotted Coat, I think its cute, the long zipper and sleek silhouette. Designed by Monsieur Christian Lacroix and its geometric so thats a big plus. <3 a="" href="http://www.desigual.com/en_US/womens-clothing/coats-jackets/prod-mysterious_night-46E2L02?selectedPage=2" target="_blank">Here
 for $150, on sale!

Next, this is my ultra favorite piece I want to get like yesterday. The Albacete with that printed large flap lapel and the embroidered body! Here for $150, on sale!

Next is similar to the Albacete but its white and white is a color I never wear due to fear of dirt and look like a marshmallow but this I would make an exception! The Laura, so cozy and cute looking. Here for $224. This one is a new arrival!

Next one is a pair of cute floral lace up sneakers because I would need footwear as well! The Love on Pink design here for $112, on sale. Not much of a big discount but I think these are well made and good quality. Reminds me of a converse design but love the suede and leather additions.

Lastly, this one feels like a tropical vacation piece or Miami Beach ready Kaftan for me to pack and wear! The Rugos Kaftan Chiffon Tunic, here for $114. Again, another new arrival!

For sure these are all wishlist pieces but I am actively considering to purchase the Albacete sooner than later, the sheepskin lining and inner warmth and cute design is A+++ in my book. Plus this weather permits this purchase, so why not! LOL.

Inspired by: Home Edition

I have been spending my days on Pinterest, just pinning away not only quotes, fun little quirks, fitness workouts, and outfits but I have a lot of pins on home decor. There is nothing like having up the Ikea tab, Walmart tab, Thomasville tab, Pottery Barn tab, Ethan Allen tab, Anthropologie tab and Etsy when looking for items to place in your space.

From Marrakesh inspired duvet sets to monogrammed apothecary jars, there is just so much I would love to add to my space.

I just love a wooden plank ceiling in contrast with the whiteness of the room, the rustic inspired decor with a clean bed plate and a fluffy fur accent pillow!

Then I also loved this woodlands like den room with a branched canopy design and cascading rounded curtains to cover it. So so eclectic and gorgeous!

I have fallen in love with the idea of draped rope lights behind a clear canopy sheet to give a romantic feel. And of course wallpapered bookcases, a great way to lighten up a spot in the room, if you don't want to wallpaper your room itself.

And of course a clean desk space with a lamp, floral arrangement, and a lucite/acrylic chair is nice combo.

But knowing myself and my love of everything from every genre, I would think my room would be the most culturally melted pot of ideas ever seen. I mean from French Provincial meets Williamsburg Hip meets Cultural Artsy Chelsea meets Scandinavian and Swedish themes. Yeah I know its a lot but I love it.

Bought a couple of frames with some gorgeous photography placed in them and the marble shelf from CB2 so far, but maybe considering a pouf, just because (Nate Berkus for Target, here's to looking at you).

A Tory Burch Summer

A Tory Burch Summer

The time comes when, although you enjoy the layering, showing off your cute boots, draped sweaters, and your bag is the focal point of your outfit, that it is okay to want summer to come sooner than later. I am a person that enjoys nearly all the season but right now is soo cold that I cannot help but want summer now!

With that being said, I have looked through nearly most of the resort and summer collections done for this season by the designers and I gotta say, Tory Burch always has a new twist on her fun designs and summer staples. The tunic, being upgraded with new prints and ways of fitting. The espadrille in different colors, the sandals in something exotic, and her newest collection is not without a little bit of a rivera/surfer edge.

As you can see, I am loving the tops she makes, the geometric, printed, and the classic tunic screams "have a cool spring/summer". I can wear this with any shorts and capris I please.

Yes, there is a skirt in the set I made, I normally don't do skirts at all but this one seemed like fun. The fringe and vertical stripes got to me.

And of course the fun pairs of summer appropriate shoes, a pretty foldover crossbody because I find totes annoying sometimes, and the Chevron frame sunglasses, which is simple yet refined.

In case you are curious:

Tory's Printed Tee here.
Tory's Terry Tunic here.
Tory's Linen Jersey Tunic T-shirt here.
Tory's Crochet & Fringe Long Skirt here.
Tory's Finley Fold-Over Messenger Bag here.
Tory's Mixed-Trims Flat Sandals here.
Tory's Chevron Sunglasses here.

Trust me, you do not have to wear all of one label at a time or have a certain affinity with wearing all of the brand's aesthetics, you can take from it and others and fuse it together to suit you.

And with that being said, I am ready to launch from 14 degrees outside to 70. Whose ready?

Currently Inspired By

Hardly do these but right now feels pretty appropriate. Sharing what I am inspired by not only gives me an outlet to vent and make mentions of what I like and aspire to but when it is concretely posted, I really try think about actually doing it. It is kind of like a kick in the a**.

Really loving layering, Isabel Marant Chic Sweaters, Emmaneulle Alt's style, a place where I can retire for some sun and surf, and of course, these new (by a few months) Chanel Espadrilles that are not only baha quilted or cracked leather but now camellia embellished!

Also loving this side swept jacket look (and the pose I am pretty much doing in most of my outfit shots) from Proenza Schouler Fall 2012, which was one of their bests. And of course cozy denim and long sweater looks, a little bit of fedora hat envy, fun draping sweaters, and the polished trench coat.

Finally, finishing it off with the Olsens style back in 2001, remember the thong platform flip-flops. cozy long knit sweaters, a tank and rolled capri denim? I do! Then try to make my room a more cozier space, since I still haven't fully packed out everything, ikea furniture hacks, being healthier, and again, long sweaters.

Pretty much inspired by everything polished, free-spirited, cozy, easy, healthy, effortless, and fun.

#NYFW FW 2015 - Trend Alert ~ Part 3

Continuing from Part 2 Trend Alert, in this conscious stream into the final days, we are seeing more of the same 70s inspirations, pants with a flair, pattern play, jewel tones, fur, burnt orange, texture, a bit of 80s and 90s, tweed work, a little brocade, and some minimal sleek silhouettes.

Tory Burch - Always love the casting that she uses, they bring about the clothing in a nice way. This season was a trip down the caravan market in what would be a modern Edie 70s meets Persian Rug and pattern play. Very nice fall appropriate outfits here. Like longer hemmed dresses, a busy collar, and little statements of embellishments. Its a little commercial and on trend with her theme but its still interesting to see how the clothing all mesh with each other and the luxuriousness of her fabrics used. If you look closely, you can see TB's aesthetic in the undertones of the latest seasons, its about travel luxuriously.
Images by Gianni Pucci / Indigitalimages.com

SKINGRAFT - I always look forward to what Jonny Cota does every season, the last few times it was urban nomad with the sick gold details two season ago, but now, he continued with the same aesthetic but took it further. I loved the elements of layering, the quality of leather and the movement of the clothing as it went down the runway. My favorite looks were the ombre-like black and white striped poncho looks that felt like a walking art piece but its so wearable, cool, and effortless at the same time. A bit of a european Spain influence with that. He always makes sure you can stay warm in the cooler months, grab that urban city element, and run with it.
Images by thefashionisto

Lela Rose - LR always knows body shapes especially a woman's silhouette. The gorgeous patterns she played with this season and the nipped in hourglass dresses were gorgeous. The peacock watercolor like white dress, the lattice work on the grey dress, the little play with washed out tight plaid patterns, some glimmering silver matted pieces, and of course, a gorgeous native pattern that had fringe galore. A great fashion forward collection for the ages and there is a piece for every woman and style in this, guaranteed.
Images by Stefano Masse/ Indigitaliamges.com

Rosie Assoulin - The revolution is real and Ms. Assoulin delivers on what clean lines and eveningwear should be but this season was even more clean separates of daywear! The little bit of crushed velvet that you'd find on a couch is even more chic on a person, the elongated looks that are styled very nicely, and those flouncy bell bottoms that look more blooming than anything. Deep monotone here for sure.
Images by Style.com

Jenny Packham - As per usual, Ms. Packham delivers on a glamorous collection that captures what eveningwear should be and basically what you should wear to events. The level of beading, embroidery, and embellishment she does is so envious! The nip-in the waist fitting was spot on and the long tresses of hair makes you envision celebrity-dome!
Images by Umberto Fratini/ Indigitalimages.com

Michael Kors - Improving more and more to deliver a consistent collection of American fashion is MK. I loved the country meets polished looks that were executed to a T. The fits were inspired, the placement of fur and embellishments were not too heavy and the level of class and elegance was not to be missed. I am heavily inspired by the last look with the bottom sleeve embellished navy pea coat. Trend is fur, cozy pieces, looser silhouette pants, and bundle-ing up with a nice coat and collar crispness.
Images by Stefano Masse / Indigitalimages.com

HUGO BOSS Womens - This collection was ultra chic, though the beginning was a bit red and German paratrooper inspired, the boxy shape turned into fit, strong shoulder looks that once you put on a pair of tall boots, you ready to stomp out the world. Loved how it finished the slinky dresses and shiny sheen material that makes you want to put on your dancing shoes. The hair matched well, some of the looks needed it, since it was busy in some, the sleek middle part shows seriousness.
Images by Marcus Tondo / Indigitalimages.com

Proenza Schouler - This collection I know received piqued interest and mixed reviews but I actually liked it, they stepped out of the box on this one and tried something new, the side cuts, cut out hosiery, and grommet beading at the end. I did love the opening with the sort of belted structured coats with fabric slabs, and the little piecing of fur was inspired but the ending with those dresses that suggest native theme sort of had me confused with why they were included but looking back over it, I admire the detail and see what they were trying to do, look at the headband and you'll understand. The trend: Peek-a-boo and haphazard fabric cuts.

At this point New York Fashion Week is wraping up with Ralph Lauren and Calvin Klein, which are two always chic shows today and London is calling the fashion herd but the next few weeks, I cant wait to scour through stores and websites to check for these trends and apply it within my own wardrobe and make it my own.

#NYFW FW 2015 - Trend Alert ~ Part 2

Continuing from Part 1 Trend Alert, in this cascading stream into Part 2, we are seeing more of the same with the addition of:

The Best Looks from Days 3, 4, and 5

Mara Hoffman - This season Hoffman really takes us on a caravan journey through safari animal prints via jumpsuit and dresses, bold African inspired geometric shapes and patterning that when mixed with a neutral undertone, its gold! The long coats, the fun silhouettes, the milkmaid braids, and the turtleneck covered necks is so fall appropriate. This collection was retro in nature and once again shows fun fashionable aways to get away with prints.
Images via Marcus Tondo/ indigitalimages.com

Tibi - This cool New York brand once again showed us how their design aesthetic was probably inspired by women from all neighborhoods of the city via 60s and 70s hair styling and a redish-pink lip. The palette being minimal and neutral showcased culottes, crisp long skirts, fun flirty shifty skirts, and layering of boxy cozy sweaters and tops. It seems like all of the cool girls can get away with wearing things like this but it is styled in a way that maybe us regular folks can give it a try too.
Images via Daniele Oberrauch / Imaxtree
Alexander Wang - This season shifts away from the sporty influence of AirJordan clutches and see-through pocketed shirts to a more darker place. A Goth meets urban grunge sort of an influence. The beading work is extraordinary on the various turtlenecks, coat edges, and overall shape on the sweaters. The two plaid jackets were my favorite, so many outfit potentials with these. One of looks favored pajamas while another one looked very 70s woodstock with the white beaded lattice sweater and bleach washed denim. The best part was Molly Bair's walk, the 5th look below, it was like STOMP the musical! When you probably take the pieces apart a lot of it can work with anyone's style, will some of these go into editorial? Most likely. The pixie cut, wet look fly away forehead hair with those moon stomp creeper boots brought it all together for this dark mood. Last time that was a bit of a dark romance was Fall 2010 but this goes a step further.
Images by Alessandro Lucioni

Moncler Grenoble - I love the amount of energy and creativity that Moncler goes through in order to present an unforgettable collection, with it falling on Valentine's Day, they delivered cozy fashion forward outerwear with moving hydraulic stages and a huge heart! Loved the plaid bubble ski apres looks, the looming fur additions in hats and hand stoles, and the cable knit inspired jacket that the duo wore in picture number two below. And of course the jewel tone fur, another trend alert to watch! Fur is in and couples are in too! lol
Images via TheCut

Altuzarra - This collection felt like vintage Tom Ford and Gucci with its raised turtlenecks, high slit skirts, usage of fur, embroidered sequin final looks, and plunging v-neck dresses like in that white lace number. It was like Altuzarra was telling Kering look how I could have designed Gucci with elements of the past. I do like the tartan plaid, argyle cable sweater, and overall sexy looks. The high slits do have elements of Altuzarra from his first collections so that is definitely not lost. But I wish he could find a groove and run with it. And once again beading on those knee high boots is another trend watch alert.
Images by Alessandro Lucioni via TheCut
DKNY - This season seems like a focus on detail, the embellishment and texture play on the various outfits was very welcoming, some of it felt like an english schoolgirl circa 1969 who supposedly listens to the Beatles but probably listens to The WHO and the Rolling Stones vs 1980s embellishing detail. Loved the dropped hem sweaters and tops, the embellished sleeve of the grey long wool coat, and the sherpa texture blocked coat on the last photo. Not to mention the rubber bottom platforms in that crisp black tops it all off.
Images by Daniele Oberrauch / Imaxtree

Prabal Gurung - Loved what PG did this season, the textures, the slight 90s feeling with the spaghetti strap and slip dress like numbers. And he achieved alot without his signature pattern play but did do some Fare Isles ski apres inspired looks that had the right sleek styling that makes you want to wear it off the runway. And with those looks, your neck is covered even though your legs partially aren't.
Images by Alessandro Lucioni

3.1 Phillip Lim - Hands down one of the best shows of fashion week in my opinion. He built upon the trends and downtown chic he does best to deliver a solid collection that featured grown up looks, layered sweater and leather vest looks with slim pants that could rival menswear. It had a sort of ambiguousness to it and met at the intersection of that ultimate cool girl who is in her own urban jungle and there is tons of day to night transition wear in this. The red lip and fresh face definitely secured this thought for me. A little bit 90s with a touch of 70s in terms of fabrics/patterning used.

Images by Marcus Tondo / Indigitalimages.com

Karen Walker - Fully blown 70s with a touch of factory girl meets morton's salt girl mod. The burnt orange loose pants with orange felt pocketed coat was adorable, the proportions is a little boxy. The various prints and details like pockets, the circular zip fobs, the sherpa lining in places, and the colorful eye makeup!
Images by Alessandro Garofalo / Indigitalimages.com

The Row - Kept it neat and tight with their aesthetic for modern luxury. I do like the proportions of the long coat but in different fits and color. Like the buttery looking leather opener to the navy blue sleekness. Then the two outfits that had obi belt and asian(Japanese) inspired Kimono elements of the criss-cross top and lengthly top and flare bottoms. And of course the shiny sateen suit that reminded me of the 90s shiny club suits but with a modern take.  Do not forget the accessories, is that a new bag shape I see?
Images from Style.com / The Row

Public School - One of my favorite MADE fw designers, its like each season they build upon the last, even though it may seem boring, it does get better over time. The incessant layering and sporty chic with a tinge of urban wear is always a goodie from this duo. The plaid herringbone grey long coat is awesome with that all grey hoodie. The menswear is solid in this show, nothing tight but everything in a lucid loose flow and transitions very well from outfit to outfit, you can see anyone wearing a separate from this collection.

#NYFW FW 2015 - Trend Alert ~ Part 1

So far this fashion week here in New York City has been giving us a late 60s into late 70s inspired/ mood looks with the frivolous fringe, wide leg denim, embroidered pieces, mixed shapes and prints, clean line layered looks involving camel, and details beyond repair.

Day 1 shows include:

Rachel Comey - Who presented a wearable artistic and intellectual college girl meets the 70s plethora of looks that are styled to perfection with the babydoll wool plaid top and the fringey Isabel Marant parisian esque coat staple. And of course some platform shoes, which seem to be one of the recurring themes in some of the shows as of Day 3/4.
(Images by: Gus Powell)

BCBG MAX AZRIA - Presented an interesting array of nomadic boho glam with yet again a touch of the 70s theme with fringe and perforation detailing and leather knee high boots.
(Images by: Daniele Oberrauch / Imaxtree)

Costello Tagliapietra - Leave it to the design duo to really go for it coming from lumberjack glam to a suspender detailed addition to neutral brown and plaid turtleneck outfits. It is retro but not only 70s, it takes a bit of energy from every decade.
(Images by: Andrea Adriani)

Tome - Produced a stunning collection this time around with definite homages to the 60s and 70s. Haphard architectural stripes with a black turtleneck detail and railroad stripe pants with large pocket detailed jackets which had clean lines. The construction of every piece was appreciated and the styling was inspired! And it also had a New York vibe to it. Like no this person does not live on the Upper East Side nor East Village but most likely Park Slope in Brooklyn or Tribeca.
(Images by: thecut)

Honor - Having followed Honor for some seasons now, I never tire of Giovanna's endless romantic fantasy affair with her choices in fabrics and the inspired looks brought about by her silhouettes. The hairband felt very mod 60s and with the blue sateen babydoll dress. I admire the pretty mosaic and quite symmetric embroidered pattern play on the various outfits, especially the print on the white overlay on black long coat. The girl here is the modern Blair Waldorf meets 60s Mod Squad. Some may say the clothing didnt fit right in places but one can tailor to fit them no?
(Images by: Alessandro Lucioni /Imaxtree)

Desigual - Having had the pleasure of attending the past seasons of Desigual shows, it is still electrifying how much fun the show truly is and how flirty the models are. Desigual is a brand that makes a statement evoking emotion through its designs, patterning, and various fabric choices! This show took us on the journey to see what goes into a collection, from all parts of the world. It was 70s flirty, with marble abstract colored prints, Kandinsky and Picasso like abstractionism reminiscent of the early 20s shift from Impressionism. The yellow suede shoes being a common theme and not to mention, the bold full volume hair!

(Images by: Desigual/the cut)

Marissa Webb - Following her move onto her own line and heading up Banana Republic, she continues to assert the chic New Yorker look with her love of the double breasted career like segment vest and separates that cozily can remind you of a Jil Sander. Modernity meets the decades for this inspiration with a little bewitching doily lace as a sexy edgy undertone and not to mention the zippered cut away jacket with such deconstruction of the past.
(Images by: Marcus Tondo/ Indigitalimages.com)

The best looks from Day 2 of the shows are from:

Jason Wu - Presented a pristine and classically gorgeous collection that epitomized the sexy modern woman with a New Yorker flair of course. The Luxe collection featured minimalist clean belted long dresses, fur and stoles galore, and some exotics of alligator caliber. This definitely screamed rich upper crust woman to me or power bitch. I did love the gorgeous exotics used but wished it had fitted a bit nicely on the top but I think thats the point because its high waisted.
(Images by: Alessandro Lucioni / Imaxtree)

Rebecca Minkoff - Rebecca definitely revealed her theme quite voraciously with a sea of grungey 70s boho rocker chic inspired looks. Of course with all of the wide brim fedora and fringey boots, band woven strap bags, and longer jacket and sweater hem details, I loved this collection. I know some may think it was too stuck to its theme and was gimmicky, I find the fabrics used and the styling to be very fun. It makes you want to almost try and wear something fringe tomorrow!
(Images by:Yannis Vlamos/ Indigitalimages.com)

Sally Lapointe - She knows her way around sexy silhouettes but this collection was so gorgeous! Loved the 70s Diner like Sheen Shirt with the cutout deconstructed skirt. And not to mention the fraying bottom hem circa Proenza Schouler's Spring 2015 collection ending. Sally knows lux and how chic fitting women love their clothing. So that minimalist grey and white number with the oversized leather clutch was out the box for her and I loved that approach. Tips from this show: Fray, Fur, Deconstruct, and layer.
(Images by: Monica Feudi / Feudiguaineri.com)

Suno - Always admire their prints and patterning, this time around the granny chic see-through high slit dress is risque yet innovative. Then the embroidered bold stripe black visible stitched coat with fur neck stole and heritage print sticking out from the bottom, such cool styling felt very late 70s. Not to mention the wool sky blue, burnt orange, and black stripe duster coat with all black, it felt sort of early 80s when everyone sort of admired the German culture and Technical synthpop electronic music.
(Images by: Alessandro Lucioni /Imaxtree)

Zimmerman - Then cool kids and 70s galore at Zimmerman that debuted pull knit ruching on the white subtle bell sleeve number with a touch of SOLID GOLD OLDIES (I had to reference) necklace. Wide brim hats were the norm here along with black YSL 70s silhouettes and styling with the All black ruche-sided pants and solid top, the paisley and embroidered hem number (reminds me of a lamp shade), and blazer with statement shorts look. To take away from this collection: Get out your pretty frocks, gold jewelry, black pieces, and wide brim felt hats!
(Images by Andrea Adriani/Imaxtree)

I like how some of the pieces are styled, the combination of the set, the cohesiveness it has with the rest of the collection to figure out the mood and motivations of the designer, and how you can probably recreate the same story within your budget by visiting the department stores, fast fashion stores, thrift stores, and vintage boutiques and making it your own!

I can't tell how many countless times Ive seen something on the runway for BCBG, Desigual, Marissa Webb, Isabel Marant, Tibi, and other designers that I know that I couldn't necessarily afford but know I can make it work (Tim Gunn Voice).

You just have to feel inspired by what you see and make sure it fits with your aesthetic. You can even go out of your comfort zone if you really want to put yourself out there. Thats why nearly every person's closet has minimalist pieces, trendy pieces, and classic pieces. A bit of each is the perfect wardrobe, or close to what perfect is. You can dress what you feel, dress what you see, and dress how you want to be.

#NYFW - Tome FW 2015 Revisited

One of the solid shows, from the official day 1 of New York Fashion Week, is Tome. Seeing this collection is such a refreshing take on a city chic wardrobe and styling. Tome delivered a very clean linear cohesive collection that harnessed the epitome of cool and showcased clean silhouettes bathed in modernity.

I mean the cut of the jackets so crisp, the pieces that needed to have a natural movement to them flowed in the right ways, a lot of it so wearable and inspiring.

The various ways stripes and flowy dresses transitioned into neutral twists. A bit of a inspiration taken from all decades is visible, like a mod meets modern NYC setting.

(Images by: Andrea Adriani)
I mean one can talk about this being a collection for all ages and for that I would agree. Collections like these shows us that style or flair can never be lost in any occasion and no matter what you wear, its how you wear it. The styling was impeccable and sleek.

For sure, id wear a thing or two from this collection, so inspiring.
