Throwback: Gucci Spring 2010 Ad Campaign

Another good Gucci ad, that introduced us into cut work lasering on leather. Minimalism and clean at its best.

Very simple composition and yet you cant take your eyes away from it.

Another favorite ad campaign of mine.

My preparation for wanting spring and summer to come quick!

What's Cooking: Coach for Spring and Now!

I think that ever since Reed Krakoff is no longer creative director and they did a major overhaul of the brand, keeping a fresh vibe on the classic leather pieces and introducing new eyes to look at Coach, I love the direction the brand has taken.

The Madison and Bleecker line of bags are absolutely gorgeous and for you ladies, you need something new for this Spring or to even wear right now, I have some good picks. All seasons appropriate and the leather on each piece is so lush.

And as you can tell graphics, mixed media, leather treatment, crossbodys, and mini bags are winners right now.

What's Cooking Coach for Spring and Now!

Not to mention my fav models Karlie Kloss and Freja Beha Erichsen leads the Fall/Spring Campaign for Coach this time around.

1. Bleecker Felicia Crossbody in Leather, here for $198. (Comes in black as well!)

2. Bleecker Small Cooper Satchel in Pebbled Leather, here for $298. (Comes in other various colors)

3. Bleecker Mini Riley Carryall in Two Tone Pyhton Embossed Leather, here for $328.

4. Madison Small Sadie Flap Satchel in Graphic Print Fabric, here for $278. (Love the graphics behind this one and flap style)

5. Bleecker Mini Riley Carryall in Leather, here for $258. (Comes in various colors!)

6. Mini Borough Bag in Pebbled Leather, here for $378. (Comes in Chambray Blue, Alpine Moss and Black!)
I mean not only is the price consistent by Coach standards but by our bag standards, the quality is worth it. And Yes, you may see me with one of this babies next month, can you guess which one? (or Two if I am extremely lucky?)

Throwback: Gucci Fall 2002

Another Gucci classic from 2002. From the height of Tom Ford. Sort of reminds me of what Slimane is doing for Saint Laurent right now.

I love dark theme associated and crisp black and white. Keeping the composition simple and wanting us to guess what color the model in the ad is wearing. Mostly likely its black with something velvety, like that japanese style obi belt.

Classic Natalia Vodianova.

And of course the runway show, where we saw the textures really playing well together.

Sort of an velvet underground, gothic glam girl with piercing eyeliner rimmed eyes. One of the best Gucci shows in its history, well, in my opinion.

Sneaker Game!

I think its safe to say that sneakers are really on trend now, especially since almost every designer bandwagoned upon the skater chic slip on sneakers. I cant tell you how happy I am because I am an avid sneaker wearer since 1992. I live on converse, loomstate sneakers, and other really sick shoes by Roxy and such. Sneaker Game!

But the new takes by brands like Lanvin, Coach, Celine, Givenchy and others are really leading the pack. Not only are they super cute and cool but they are easy to wear and wont break your back like heels.

Can you guess which one will be in my closet next month?

#NYFW Day 6 - SKINGRAFT Fall/ Winter 2014

Skingraft debuted on the big Lincoln Center stage last week Tuesday and I have to say what a treat to see the line develop and stay true to its aesthetics from the spring 2014 line.

I love the urban nomadic element, with truly lovely stitching on every piece from the skirts and bomber leather jackets to the leather eared hats.
Photos: Robert Mitra

I love the cozy, edgy and eclectic fit of everything from this line.
The mens look with a touch of gold hardware finishes and the ladies galaxy like print against the leather.

I mean finally a line you can look so downtown chic and edgy and yet be warm.

The mix of femininity and masculinity is well defined and the proportions of clothing shown are well made and not stiff on the body. They have a certain swing and thats what I am a big fan of. Wearability and coolness factor.

The New York City Black Army, there is stuff here for us to wear. Even all black if you want! :)

Lets revel in Coach's Fall Looks

I know New York Fashion Week just ended this week but it still lives on within us. From the clothing, accessories, soirees, after party shindigs, and street style business lunches.

One of my favorite presentations was the Coach new direction under Stuart Veivers.

I mean love the old american late 70s aesthetic rustic feel to it. The minimal black boots with brown wood like bottom. Very neat.

And the bags look so simple and nice leather.

My main obsession with this new direction is the coats and clothing. Before the clothing was so boring and the same type of wool coat and trench coat prevailed, dont get me wrong Coach trenchcoats are timeless but not Burberry type of iconic timeless. Nonetheless I love the camel colors, the Apollo sweater, burnt orange hues, duffle coats and such.

I like the black army vibe to this. The good black fashionable coat, black leather tote, and black wedges, with a mixed media colorblock to it. Very smart.

#NYFW Day 6 - Art Institutes Student Collections

I had the pleasure of attending the Art Institute Student Collections Runway Show, where we see graduate and current student's creations on the big New York Fashion Week stage, and I have to say everyone was wonderful this season.

The music by DJ Xavier had me tapping my foot in a good rhythm and the overall flow of show was spectacular.

These are some of my favorite looks from the students.

This is by Lorena Cabrera, who is a graduate of AI Portland.
This sculptural drape short dress is perfect, with the patterning and cross hatching styling and stitch of the bottom half, looking fold over as that. Plus the shoulder is so avant garde and neatly done.

Next is Samuel Ciccone, who is a graduate from AI Philadelphia.
Who did a wonderful suiting style of dress with black leather panelling in the front and sleeves. Then the black collar is so perfect with it. I love the edginess associated with this.

Then is Michael Doyle, who is a graduate from AI NYC. Hometown baby.
You can tell that he is influenced by the NY black army, because this black Cotton Voile dress with leather sleeves is to die for.

Next is Gustavo Alonso, who is graduate from Miami Int. University from Art and Design.
His inspiration is a woman with a dark and romantic side. It definitely shows in this number. This Charcoal guipure lace v-neck evening gown. I love the lace chantilly detailing throughout and the romantic feel to it. She is ready to seduce her next prey.

Then is the Duo, RG by Ryan Edmonds and German Madrigal. Who are both from AI Portland, One is a student and another graduate. Interesting combination to see what they have done. I love the easy layered look and bad ass girl vibe. The inspiration is unisexual layering and design, creating a balance between menswear and womenswear. I could definitely see the Black zip front vest being worn by a man, never thought of it til now. There is a hint of menswear hidden within this outfit. Great job.

Next is Joshuan Aponte, a student from AI NYC. Hometown once again!
His inspiration was avant garde massive structures with a color story and unforgettable presence to the woman who wears it. I just love the bubbly feature to this. Reminds us how fun fashion should and can be, not to take it so meticulously all the time.

Then its Simone Young, student from AI NYC. Another hometown once again!
Her inspiration was Metamorphosis, the evolution and process of the modern woman. She has such beautifully constructed designs. One of my favorites.
Just look at the long pleated black jacket over slim pants. The black army collection thrives on for NY natives.

Next is Christopher Maracha, Graduate from AI San Francisco. His inspiration for the line came from the sleek lines of Patrick Nagel's art.
Just look at this color blocked red and black tee with see through shoulders and sleek black pants. Looks so motocross like and eclectic.

Then is Rie Yamamoto, Graduate from AI San Francisco as well. Her inspiration was mid century ideas, which was clearly evident through this peplum top and leather peg style skirt look with fur vest.
Just look at the construction with the leather, as I watched the model walk down the runway it was well done and a good fit. A little lose around the waist but the tiered leather needs that room on the dress.
So crafty.

Next is Anna Charest, who is a student at AI Philadelphia. Her inspiration was the Moses wagon, a convertible medical wagon in the civil war. So this is a modernized 1800s apparel. Very crafty and well done.

The epitome of a modern strong woman. I love the embroidery on this long flaired brown coat and easy grey slim pants. Simple in construction and beautiful.

Next is Lauren Barisic, student at AI San Francisco. Her inspiration was from the movie Charade and turned into an mystery and anxious collection. Loved the usage of plaids and colors. Not to mention the puffed sleeves reminiscent of the victorian era.
Nice white giant sleeve blouse with Black floor-length trumpet skirt. Beauty indeed!

Lastly, is Luis Aponte, who is a student at Miami Int. University of Art and Design.
His inspiration was the Metamorphosis inspired by colors, textures, and unique wing designs of butterflies.
Loved this number with the swatched detail coat over shift dress. I love the play on textures and design on this. The yellow lines of the dress, interesting geometric element with the texture of the coat.

Overall, everyone did a great job, with any collection its a little rough but I cant wait to see all of these designers emerge more and show again here in New York.

#NYFW Best of Day 6: From J. Crew to Vera Wang

And we go into Day 6's favorites and shows that struck me as most interesting.

Vera Wang - It seems like Vera paid a nod to Slimane's Saint Laurent look and went grungy glam for this fall's collection. The black and plaid cool girl look, to the "You Bug Me' tee and leather skirt. I find it awesome. Black crew, we have clothes in this collection for us!
Images: Style

The mixed textures of plaid and leather I love it.
The fur muffler.

The burnout top is quite interesting to see. I wonder if Vera were to do a burnout bodice for a goth girl's wedding?

It looks like a society girl went dark and customized her thousand dollar dresses by wearing the sheer lining underneath instead. I think this was a cool collection overall. I am a fan of some dark themes for sure. Feminine darkness I am a fan of.

J. Crew - Smart trouser straight pants tailored so beautifully as per usually. The long coat with simple shirt to match. But I love the added bomber with floral and white top.

The very sporty bomber from like 2003, matched with the textured black top and floral pants with minimalist lined heels, Very interesting combo together.

And here is the bandwagon, The fur coat in a half chevron, colorblocked style, I love it.

I love when Jenna Lyons does bold colors in layering or a casual pairing.
The bright orange coat and shirt with plaid tweedy pants, simply genius. Once again, I can see a fashion week personality wearing this. Oh wait, Jenna probably will. :)

The ombre knit and plaid striped pajama like pants, interesting.

I love this layering and color blocking on the whole outfit. The embroidered detail on the first look, like a middle eastern theme matching with that fur stole.

Then screen printed silk pants with plaid scarf and bomber puffer. Innovative.

I know some people may say Jenna has a personality for quirky and smart looks, in which she does but its never boring and its always solid pieces that have something new added to it or styled in a different way to reach new audiences. Great job once again!

Jenny Packham - The designer favorite of our favorite Dutchess. And she continues with old hollywood, London glamorous pieces that has embroidery and jewelling to each and every piece that is a true craft.

I can see a hint of Bianca Jagger and Elizabeth Taylor at the same time, cant you?

Marc by Marc Jacobs - The logo loving, motocross anime chic and cyper punk girl from the height of the 90s, (95) would love this collection. He definitely went into another route like he wanted to and he executed it in a way I personally love. If youve seen my love of the cyper punk 90s movement post earlier on this blog, then youll see how it relates.

The large leather belted waits, the silver lame logo top and red graffiti sleeves.

The sporty like element was major in this collection, with the boxer like looks on the right one, the sleeves, large pants (1920s baseball large pants) and boxer like boots.

The braided pigtails with the same leather black large obi belt, graffiti fun jeans which I loved and the black blazer with touch of blue.

The karate like green outfit.

And layering like no other.
The incessant graffiti does work in this collection, it brings across the image of this turn of century revolutionary girl in the 90s, who loves to have fun but not too much (or thats the impression she likes to give, we know we all did).

Oscar de la Renta -
Punk mod kind of choppy hair to start off. I love how Oscar designs to this day, the level of tailoring and fits he does, he knows how to dress a woman's body, all these decades. The female powersuit with the silver belt, dark heathered gray and ruffled top at the waist. Feels a little like 80s Dynasty dont you think?

Then that blue fur collar jacket. The graphic black and white dotted look, with black panelling in leather and leather pants, very eclectic and neatly done.

When he forays into prints, I die. Just look at these. Especially that red embroidered blocked dress, the matching heels are divine.

The society women dresses! One of for the daughter and another for the mother. I love the chantilly lace down the long royal blue number, elegant and chic.

Then the fitted A-line dress with grey and cerulean blue floral embroidery is gorgeous. It just cascades from the neckline to the bottom hem.

All the designers had some neat pieces these season, some bordering on boring, others interesting but still on the fence, and others are simply genius.
